The Backwoods Story

The Waters family has always been passionate about hospitality and inviting others to experience the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge. Before they started Backwoods Brewing Company in 2012, they had a bed and breakfast in Carson, greeting travelers from near and far.

After a few years of hosting locals and visitors at their pubs in Carson and Portland, Jim and Debbie dreamed of getting back to their roots - building luxurious cabins tucked into the hills they love so much and creating a Washington state getaway that was an escape from the busyness of the world. They had spent time traveling themselves, taking notes on their favorite elements and bringing them home to the Gorge. With their team of employees, kids and grandkids, they carved out a retreat in the woods and built eight charming cabins by hand. They oversaw every detail to make sure it reflected the spirit of our beautiful area, and showcased what everyone comes to enjoy: four seasons of adventure, reconnecting with nature, awe-inspiring views and a little time to be with our favorite people in an incredible space. 

Designed for individuals, couples or groups to find their own slice of paradise, our cabins are the perfect place for unwinding. You’ll find everything you need at your fingertips - gas fireplaces and games in a cozy sitting area, a kitchenette to take care of your needs, king-size beds that feel like “sleeping on a cloud.” After a day of exploring the woods, mountains and rivers, come back and tell your tales around an outdoor gas firepit, roasting s’mores and gazing at more stars than you can count.
